In this article, we will read about A Fun Way of Improving Your English Language, through the use of Music. The reading level of this article is intermediate to advanced. Read this article at least twice and share it with a friends who is also trying to learn English.

Music has been used as a method of teaching for many years. In pre-school most of us can remember learning how to count, or how to spell words with the use of nursey rhymes. By giving a tune to words and numbers, it makes it easier for our brains to recall the information we learn. This is the same reason why music is a great way to improve your language skills. You are more likely to remember the lyrics of a song you enjoyed. In fact, it’s common for a song to ‘get stuck in your head’ if the tune is very catchy.

Another reason music is a great way to improve your speaking skills quickly is the fact that listening to music is an enjoyable activity. Learning something new is more effective when the student is having fun, and feeling relaxed. Music can give you a sense of calmness, and also brings a feeling of happiness. You would remember new vocabulary much easier, if you learned it while you were feeling calm and happy.

Learning new vocabulary is another beneficial reason why listening to music helps improve your English. Listening to music will also enhance your understanding skills and improve your pronunciation. By singing along to a song, you are practicing your pronunciation of the words you’re singing.

Pop music is the most useful type of music when trying to improve your English speaking skills. The common topics in pop songs are usually simple enough to help with common vocabulary, and talking about relatable themes. Another factor of pop music is that pop artist usually articulate their words clearly and use simple language to create catchy popular lyrics that many people can easily sing along to.

My favorite pop song is called, “Perfect”, by a popular English Singer-Songwriter named, Ed Sheeran. The song is a love song to a woman he is in love with. Some of my favorite lyrics in the song are:

Baby, I’m dancing in the dark with you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favourite song
When you said you looked a mess, I whispered underneath my breath
But you heard it, darling, you look perfect tonight”

Another one of my favorite pop songs is “Hello”, a song recorded by award-winning English Singer-Songwriter, Adele. This heartbreaking song is about a break-up with a person she used to be with in the past. Some of the best lyrics in the song say:

“Hello from the other side. I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside. At least I can say that I’ve tried
To tell you I’m sorry for breaking your heart”
